Google will invest up to $2 billion in Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI, ramping up the race between artificial intelligence companies, originally reported by The Wall Street Journal Friday.

Amazon also committed a $4 billion investment to the startup and its AI assistant Claude last month. In addition to this financial commitment, Amazon Web Services has solidified its position as the primary cloud provider for Anthropic. This collaboration has enabled Anthropic to leverage AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips for training its foundational AI models. In exchange, AWS has acquired a minority stake in the company responsible for Claude and gained early access to Anthropic's advanced features, which can be offered to AWS customers.

Anthropic is an AI startup company based in San Francisco, California. The company describes itself as an AI "safety and research" business and focuses focused on creating "reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems." It was founded in 2021 by Dario and Daniela Amodei, and now has more than 150 employees.

Anthropic is the startup behind Claude 2, a competitor chatbot to ChatGPT. Claude excels at different tasks, such as mature dialogue, elaborate content generation, complex reasoning, and detailed instruction. This is successful while maintaining a dependable and accurate end product.

What sets Claude apart is its utilization of 'Constitutional AI,' a proprietary approach that adheres to a set of ethical principles and guidelines. This framework dictates that Claude should generate responses that actively combat racism, sexism, and toxic content, among other protective measures.
