T-Mobile suffered a security breach in December that may have exposed call-related information and phone numbers for some of its customers. That's a second data breach for the past year. "Our cybersecurity team recently discovered and shut down malicious, unauthorized access to some information related to your T-Mobile account. We immediately started an investigation, with assistance from leading cybersecurity forensics experts, to determine what happened and what information was involved. We also immediately reported this matter to federal law enforcement and are now in the process of notifying impacted customers." T-Mobile reassures its customers that personally identifiable information, often called PII, was not part of the data breach. The data accessed didn't include names, email addresses, payment information, social security numbers, or passwords. Alarms would have definitely sounded louder had that been the case but, fortunately for T-Mobile subscribers, that wasn't the case, at least according to the carrier. A T-Mobile spokesperson said the breach only impacted 0.2% of the company's total userbase, which puts the number at around 200,000. The security breach does not look as bad as the company's previous security breaches, primarily due to the smaller number of affected customers and the less sensitive nature of the exposed data. Earlier breaches at T-Mobile exposed customers' information in 2018, prepaid customers' information in 2019 and exposed customer and financial data in March last year, the report mentioned.
