Watch carefully when you start your computer tomorrow.... If everything goes as planned, you shouldn't notice a thing ;) Tomorrow, June 8, is the World Internet Protocol verion 6 (IPv6) Day. For a 24-hour period, several large companies, including Google, Facebook, and Yahoo! will make their websites available over the Internet's next-generation addressing scheme. This is the largest test yet of the new set of standards.
The implementation of the new addressing scheme is necessary because the Internet grew faster than anyone could have predicted and if the switchover isn't made to IPv6, services will become increasingly disrupted as the system creaks under the weight of billions of new users joining the current masses online.
